Meet the Giants
This mixed media project was just a fun idea I had after a trip to Colorado and visiting Rocky Mountain National Park. After taking pictures of multiple different landscapes and mountains, I had the thought, “What if there was a big guy over there?” So after taking pictures of the beautiful scenery, I would take out my sketchbook and draw out a Giant. Each Giant has a personality and a story that has helped form the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.
Big Gim
Pronounced “Big Jim”,
Big Gim has had the most sightings on cloudy and foggy days. These sightings and the weather are no coincidence. Whenever Gim is spotted in the mountains, he is always seen sparking up a large pine tree cigar. It is said his cigar smoke can clean out the atmosphere, an ability that Gim is indifferent to, only desiring to enjoy his cigar.
Baugas Toa
A jovial and jolly creature, often seen, heard, and felt bellowing outa deep and almost contagious laugh. This laughter can cause shifts in the rock formations around the park. Many visitors wonder, “What is so funny?” Is it a joke remembered from earlier, a goofy moose, a hiker slipping on a comically placed banana peel? Unfortunately, it is unknown
The Long One
One of the most undocumented and unseen creatures, not only in the park but also in the world, the Long One slinks above mountain tops. It begs the question: how can something so large be so hard to see? The Long One appears to want to avoid contact as much as possible, occasionally leveling areas just to get out of view. Of the few sightings, the visitors have experienced 5 years of good luck and one year of devastation, making you think, is it worth it to see such a creature?
Burnie
Sightings of this massive creature have only just started recently, making visitors think that this creature has either recently been born or migrated here from another place. All that’s known about Burnie is, she’s here to stay. She can be seen loafing around on flat mountain faces and flicking her tail. Since she arrived at the park, cloudy and foggy days have doubled, confusing her sightings with Big Gim cigar smoke.
Yorgen
This sleeping giant has never been seen awake, spending years asleep in one area at a time. Yorgen’s green fur is not naturally green; it used to be a deep gray color, but the imobility of the creature has allowed algae and moss to grow all over his body. If Yorgen is sleeping in the middle of a trail there is no way around him, you’re better off re routing or planning a future visit.
A shy and childlike creature that often forgets how large it actually is. Olagg waits for hikers to leave the park and rummages through any leftover gear, trash, and other objects to see if he can play or get any enjoyment out of it. It is fascinated with humans and finds any way to help hikers have a pleasant time. Olagg’s favorite leftover items are tents, as it finds a way to turn them into kites that it can fly above the cloud lines. All the recorded giants seem to get along with Olagg swimmingly.
